"2147 Africa / The Silence of Our Mothers" is a collective performance about tradition and modernity, based on stories from the African population and authors. From 2026 to 2028, a theatrical laboratory in several countries will collect stories, memories, and practices. This performance-manifesto is led by two artists: Moise Touré and Salia Sanou. It will explore the whispers of our ancestors, the forgotten role of our mothers, and the future of African youth.

Local context

After two initial installments (2147, Africa and 2147, What if Africa disappeared), Les Inachevés will complete their trilogy on Africa in 2026-2028 with 2147, Africa / The Silence of Our Mothers. In line with the idea that recent years have brought about some unprecedented upheavals and questions about our societies, Les Inachevés propose to construct this final installment differently, outside of usual practices, based on a vast traveling laboratory (meetings, workshops, etc.) in a long-term, phased approach, covering three continents (Europe, Africa, Asia).

Description

"2147 Africa / The Silence of Our Mothers is a collective performance that explores tradition and modernity through the words of African youth, who make up the majority of the continent's population. Between 2026 and 2028, a theatrical laboratory in several countries will collect stories, memories, and practices from both rural and urban areas. Structured in four parts—the whisper of ancestors, the silence of our mothers, the invention of Africa, the silence of masks—it questions the role of mothers, the future carried by young people, and the status of ritual objects. The stage is designed to be rhizomatic, multiplying spaces for speech and uniting reflection and imagination.
