Call for applications – Rough Cut Lab Africa

Rough Cut Lab Africa returns for its 9th edition, running from the 30th May to the 28th June 2026. RCLA brings together African directors and editors, collaborating exclusively with African consultants to champion authentic and nuanced narratives rooted in the continent’s diverse realities. In our nomadic ethos the 2026 RCLA is open to the whole content but with a special focus on East Africa. This year we will be accepting both documentary and fiction projects. Every lab invites junior editors, assistants, students, and producers as observers, creating a unique learning environment that fosters talent development and skills-sharing. This collaborative approach establishes RCLA as an invaluable resource for first-time and experienced filmmakers who often face marginalisation and struggle to find platforms for their voices. Films that participate in the lab benefit from a range of awards and resources such as discounted or free post-production services, targeted consultations, colour correction and online packages, sound design and mixing, poster design, and cash awards. RCLA is a critical need within the industry to support African filmmakers and amplify stories told by Africans.
