The Tamale Film and Television Academy (TAFTA) is a private vocational institution in Tamale, Northern Ghana, dedicated to providing professional training in video and television production to empower the region's youth and develop its creative sector . It is currently recognized as the only institution of its kind in the area with the technical expertise to offer such formal, hands-on training .

TAFTA was established to address a major challenge faced by the Northern Ghanaian film industry, often called "TallywoodGH" . While this industry has grown from grassroots theater into a thriving creative sector producing local films, many of its professionals are self-taught and lack formal training . TAFTA fills this gap by offering structured education, turning passionate individuals into skilled creators who can work professionally in film, television, and for NGOs 
media talent.

TAFTA's practical training model allows students to produce real content, such as TV programs and mini-series, which are sometimes broadcast on national networks . Its graduates have gone on to work with major media houses and international programs like the Canon Development Programme, demonstrating the quality and reach of its training .

TAFTA's CEO, Alhassan Abdul Washeed, has called for greater investment in the northern film industry, noting the region's "organic storylines" with global potential . To continue its mission, the academy is actively seeking partnerships and investment from the government, private sector, NGOs, and international bodies to expand its operations, infrastructure, and training initiatives . Supporting TAFTA is seen as a way to empower storytellers, preserve culture, and create jobs in Northern Ghana .
