The Institut français is the pivotal operator for the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture in implementing France's foreign cultural policy.
 
Its missions are to support and coordinate the French cooperation and cultural action network abroad; to assist French creators and cultural and creative industries in their international development; to strengthen dialogue between cultures and societies; and to promote the French language and multilingualism.
 
It operates in the following areas
1. expertise, advice, training and the provision of resources ;
2. mobility and residency programs, and the structuring of French and foreign professional networks;
3. organization of cultural events and debates;
4. co-financing projects.
 
The Institut français is active worldwide. It pays particular attention to developing cultural entrepreneurship in Africa, strengthening cooperation between youth and civil society in Europe, and cultural and creative industries in the Indo-Pacific.
