Girls in Film is a non-profit organization and a global network that champions and connects women, non-binary and transgender creatives in the film industry. Based in Johannesburg, The South African Chapter was launched in 2020 with support from the Girls in Film Global Network with the mission to make both the local and international industries more accessible to this new generation of filmmakers by sharing resources, insights, education and opportunities.

Girls in Film places an emphasis on democratising information and access to these industries and demystifying their inner workings through a collective mindset. For Girls in Film, diversifying the filmmaking landscape in South Africa also means helping filmmakers understand how to make creative career paths financially sustainable. Our core initiatives Girls in Film School, Girls in Film Talks, and Girls in Film Club provide opportunities for education, engagement, and exhibition that gather our community and create ways to connect, support and upskill.
