My name is Fred Gerald Halla  known as ‘fredhalla’  a Tanzanian visual artist and community art facilitator, and my work focuses on public art, community engagement, and cultural storytelling. I am the Founder and Creative Director of Urithi Arts, a creative space which empowers local artists through creative arts training, exhibitions, and entrepreneurship skills
My artistic journey began in my youth, influenced by Tanzania’s rich artistic traditions and the vibrant culture of Dar es Salaam. My formal training in visual arts at the University of Dar es salaam, was complemented by practical learning experiences, where I explored different artistic techniques and storytelling forms. Throughout my education, I gravitated toward projects that connected art to the community, leading me to take side in public art, installations and nurturing children’s talent.
I have exhibited my works in various group shows and independent exhibitions, both locally and internationally. My exhibitions often blend visual art with community stories, highlighting social themes and encouraging audience interaction. My involvement in exhibitions extends beyond showcasing my work, I actively supports emerging artists through Urithi Arts, organizing collaborative projects, art classes for children and youths. I belief that art should be accessible, inclusive, and engaging.
