James Matthes is the Creative Executive Officer of Pressure Cooker Studios, a Music and Audio Studio based in Cape Town, South Africa. 

Over the past 15 years, he has grown the studio from a basement start-up into one of Africa’s most respected creative production houses, with world-class facilities and a team of 20+ composers, engineers, and sound designers. 

 At the heart of James’s leadership is a people-first philosophy. He has built a studio culture rooted in values, collaboration, and curiosity. His purpose is to create a platform for talent to flourish. His belief that Africa is not just an emerging market but a powerhouse of creative potential drives Pressure Cooker Studio’s mission to close the gap between Africa and the world. 

 James has led the studio through bold expansions, from building Africa’s only purpose-built Foley stage to pioneering transparent pricing models that protect the value of creative labour. He has also championed partnerships with organisations like Bridges for Music and the Academy of Digital Arts, creating pathways for new talent from underrepresented communities. 

 Through thought leadership, advocacy, and a relentless commitment to purpose-driven creativity, James is shaping not only Pressure Cooker Studios, but the future of Africa’s creative industries. Comment end
