CINEMED – Appel à films

The Festival International du Cinéma Méditerranéen de Montpellier has just launched the call for films for its next edition. They can compete in the Feature Film, Short Film and Documentary sections, or for the Development Grant. Supported by the CNC and organized from October 17 to 25, 2025 in Montpellier, the CINEMED festival has been contributing to the discovery of Mediterranean cinematographic productions through its competitions and retrospectives for 47 years. Registration for the 2025 Official Selection and the 35th Development Grant is now open. Until July 7, 2025, the Short Film Competition invites filmmakers from the Mediterranean basin, Portugal, Georgia, Romania, Bulgaria or Armenia to submit short films (fiction, documentary, animation or experimental) lasting up to 30 minutes and made since July 1, 2024. The subject of the film must be related to Mediterranean issues. The committee will select around twenty short films for the Competition and fifteen for the Panorama. Documentary filmmakers from the same regions have until July 18 to enter the Feature Documentary competition if they have a film completed since July 1, 2024, which has not yet been broadcast on French channels or theatrically distributed in France. Documentaries must be at least 50 minutes long. Rooted in the societal, cultural, political, historical or environmental issues of the Mediterranean, the documentary's subject must reflect a personal and original point of view on the region. In the feature-length fiction competition, films made since July 1, 2024 that contribute to highlighting the Mediterranean basin can be submitted until August 21, 2025. With a running time of over 60 minutes, the film must not have been distributed or broadcast on video in France. The director must be from one of the above-mentioned countries. Finally, the Development Grant is open only to feature-length fiction projects seeking co-production and set in the Mediterranean environment, or expressing the cultural specificities of the Mediterranean area. Open until July 18, 2025, the call for films is aimed at directors who have already made at least one short fiction film. Each director may submit several projects, but only one may be selected to compete for the grant. Development grants of up to €10,000 will be awarded following the defenses, which will take place on October 21 and 22, 2025 in Montpellier.
